Texas Instruments

This company was established in 1930 in American Dallas under the name Geophysical Service Inc. (GSI). It originally dealt with oil exploration, but during the Second World War, the company started to also manufacture electronic equipment for the army. This division gradually started to dominate over the geophysical division and the company needed to reorganize. It was renamed to Texas Instruments to signify its growing scope and field of focus. GSI became its subsidiary. The company recorded some industry firsts, for example, when it manufactured the first transistor radio in 1954, or when in 1958 its employee Jack Kilby invented the integrated circuit, for which he got a Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000. Today their broad portfolio includes more than 80,000 products ranging from analog to embedded processing chips, that more than 100,000 customers all over the world use. By that TI tries to accomplish its goal, namely to reduce the cost of electronics using semiconductors. By using its expertise, the company also helps its customers to solve challenges connected to design for new applications, product components and system applications.
